Last weekend, we took a day trip to Annapolis, Maryland. It’s a short drive from Northern Virginia over to Annapolis, but there is something about leaving the commonwealth of Virginia that makes it feel like a little bit more of an escape. The fall leaves were bright oranges and reds as well drove down route 50. My goals were to eat seafood, drink a coffee, see the water, and hold hands with C.
We got lunch at The Federal House Bar and Grille. I got crab cakes. Seafood – check!
Water – check!
After walking around Navy’s campus for a while and taking pictures (and holding hands – check!), we got coffee at a cute little coffee shop by the water (Starbucks) where I read Crazy Love while C read Rolling Stone. Coffee – check!

I just finished reading Crazy Love by Leslie Morgan Steiner this weekend. It was very sad, but enlightening at the same time. It is her personal memoir focused on the abusive relationship she was in during her early 20s. Because I knew the premise of the book before I started reading it seemed like all the signs of abuse were very obvious before the situation really became dangerous. I suppose the author did this intentionally so that readers would notice those signs and understand how people in abusive relationships rationalize their circumstances. I kept thinking throughout the book how brave she was to write her story. People don’t think of strong, intelligent woman as getting in abusive relationships. Leslie Morgan Steiner isn’t just writing this for her own sake… she clearly aims to be an advocate for women who are trapped in abusive relationships. It was a hard read at times, but I am glad I read it.
I’m starting to read Room by Emma Donoghue now… another sad book, but I’ll let you know how it is. Hope you had a nice weekend!
