Into Thin Air

During the holiday, I read Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. I’ve had it on my shelf for a while and my break was a good time to finally read it. I was especially interested in the book because it’s about mountain climbing and my dad climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania last fall. It is Krakauer’s personal memoir of hiking Mount Everest in the spring of 1996, which turned out to be one of the deadliest seasons in the mountain’s history. It was hard to read at times, but it was really eye-opening. I enjoy casual hiking, but I’ve never had a desire to do any serious climbing and after reading this it made me wonder why people climb at all.

While it was a quick read, it was a heavy subject and I think I’m going to need a more lighthearted book next.
