Kramer Books

I’m going to go ahead and admit that I complain about DC a lot. I mean, a lot. I can’t handle the traffic, and the weather, and all the young people (I’m young, so I’m not sure why this bothers me), and allll the politics. But this past weekend, I was pleasantly reminded of one of my favorite spots in the city. Kramer Books.

I met a couple of friends in DuPont for brunch at Circa. YUM. After brunch and a quick walk through the farmers market, we went into  Kramer Books.

It’s a wonderful combination of books and food and coffee and drinks. The food in the restaurant is delicious (albeit a little expense for my meager wages). I’ve been for lunch, brunch, coffee, and cocktails… all great! The books are a good combination of mainstream and lesser-knowns. I found these great Short Stories in Translation by Penguin. I definitely want the Spanish one. I wish the store had a couple cozy chairs… I would’ve stayed a lot longer!

The ampersand logo they use is clean and simple. I love ampersands in general…

As we browsed, my friend Kate and I started scheming about the bookstore we (including all my friends) are going to open one day when we get brave enough to quit our day jobs. With super bookstores like Barnes & Noble and online dealers like Amazon, how the heck does a local store survive? Whatever Kramer’s is doing is working… it was packed! It is refreshing to see local bookstores like this thriving.

I left empty-handed, but happy and with a restored faith in DC.  🙂
